Frequently asked questions

Everything you might want to know about this counter.

Is this word counter really free?

Yes — completely free, with no sign-up, no word limit and no watermarks. Use it as often as you like, for essays, articles, speeches, social posts or anything else.

Is my text private?

Yes. All counting happens locally in your browser using JavaScript. Your text is never uploaded, stored or sent to any server — you can even disconnect from the internet after the page loads and it will keep working.

How are reading and speaking times calculated?

Reading time assumes an average silent reading speed of 200 words per minute, and speaking time assumes 130 words per minute, a natural pace for presentations and speeches. Times are rounded to the nearest second.

Does it work with Urdu and other languages?

Yes. The counter is Unicode-aware, so text in Urdu, Arabic, Hindi and other scripts is counted correctly — words are recognised by their letters, not just by the Latin alphabet.

What are the “top keywords”?

They are the words that appear most often in your text, counted case-insensitively. Common filler words (stopwords) like “the”, “and” and “of” are excluded so the list shows the words that actually carry meaning.
